Septic Inspector/Cosultant
We are seeking a qualified Septic Inspector/Consultant to join our team. The ideal candidate will perform on-site septic system inspections, evaluate system performance, provide expert consultation to homeowners and contractors, and prepare clear, professional reports for regulatory compliance and real estate transactions. This role requires a mix of field work, technical knowledge, and strong communication skills.
Septic Inspector/Consultant — Job Responsibilities and Field Inspection Duties
Conduct thorough on-site inspections of septic systems, including conventional gravity, pressure-dosed, mound, chamber, and advanced treatment systems.
Perform soil evaluations and perc/perc-related assessments in accordance with local and state regulations.
Assess system components (tank, distribution box, drainfield, pumps, alarms) for condition, functionality, and compliance.
Collect and document site measurements, system details, and photographic evidence during inspections.
Prepare detailed, accurate inspection reports for homebuyers, real estate agents, and regulatory agencies.
Provide actionable recommendations for repairs, maintenance, upgrades, and replacement options.
Offer consultation on septic design alternatives, permitting processes, and best management practices.
Coordinate with homeowners, contractors, engineers, and local health departments to facilitate inspections and approvals.
Stay current with state and local septic code requirements and environmental regulations.
Required Qualifications — Septic Inspector Certification and Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience inspecting or working with on-site wastewater treatment systems, septic service, or soil evaluation.
Relevant certifications such as Certified Septic Inspector, Onsite Wastewater Installer, Soil Evaluator, or equivalent state/local licensing required where applicable.
Proven knowledge of septic system components, hydraulics, soil percolation testing, and drainfield design principles.
Strong technical writing skills and experience producing inspection reports suitable for real estate transactions and permitting.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and willingness to travel to client sites within the service area.
Preferred Skills — Onsite Wastewater, Consulting, and Technical Abilities
Experience with advanced treatment systems and troubleshooting mechanical components (pumps, alarms, dosing systems).
Familiarity with GIS, site mapping, and basic CAD or septic design software.
Excellent customer service and communication skills; able to explain technical findings to non-technical clients.
Ability to work independently in varied weather and terrain conditions, and manage a flexible schedule.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing inspection logs, follow-ups, and invoicing.
